What we look for

Three things over everything else.

Genuine interest

The Phoenician Investment Fund is open to all FIU majors. Whether you're trying to break into the financial industry or simply curious about how it works, you can benefit from the program — provided the curiosity is real.

Commitment to the work

Active members are expected to attend weekly meetings, complete assignments, and ship original research. We accommodate genuine conflicts; we don't accommodate disinterest.

Self-direction

The strongest members treat the curriculum as a floor, not a ceiling. They read Graham, Marks, and Fisher on their own time and they show up with questions we haven't answered yet.

FAQ

Common questions.

I missed the application deadline. Can I still join PIF?

Applications open during the first and second week of the fall semester, available on our Instagram @fiu_pif and at in-person orientation. If you miss the deadline, please reach out — we'd love to meet you and tell you what PIF is about. We strongly encourage you to apply the following year.

I'm not a finance or business major. Can I still join?

Yes. PIF is open to all FIU majors. Our program is suited for any student with a genuine interest in learning the practical skills used in finance — whether you're trying to break into the industry or just curious to learn more.

How is PIF different from other finance organizations on campus?

FIU has many strong organizations. Our specific focus is preparing students for rigorous careers in finance. We modify the curriculum every semester to track the changing recruiting bar, and we put real weight on soft skills — networking, professional communication, and interview craft. What sets PIF apart most is our alumni network — members placed across investment banking, sales & trading, and the buy-side at firms like Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, J.P. Morgan, Bank of America, Centerview, Lazard, and Evercore. Our alumni actively mentor current members, open recruiting doors, and give the kind of firsthand insight you can't get anywhere else on campus.

Are weekly meetings mandatory?

Yes, for active members. We understand that circumstances arise, but to take full advantage of the curriculum we expect members to attend the meetings, workshops, and activities they signed up for.

Do I need prior finance experience?

No. Many of our most successful alumni came in with no prior exposure to finance. The curriculum is designed to bring strong, curious students up to a real Wall Street technical bar over two semesters.

What's the time commitment?

Plan on three weekly meetings, plus mentorship, plus the work to ship original research each semester. Apart from that, you will get out what you put in.
